Christmas comes but once a year
Lots of gifts for girls and boys
Presents brought from far and near
Books and games and food and toys
Must we shop until we drop?
Must we spend in search of fun?
Who is brave enough to stop
The madness, when all’s said and done?
Keep it simple, keep it calm,
Keep it low-key, yes, that’s right!
If you wish to do least harm
Do shop local. So, good night!
Your first line (and the message of your poem) reminds me of Stan Freberg’s “A Green Christmas”, which you can listen to here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5IXlfJSEi4.
Happy holidays!

The first line is of course inspired by the traditional rhyme, and it’s also my wish to you and this blog’s regular followers: Christmas comes but once a year, and when it comes it brings good cheer…

Now that you are “far from the madding crowd” enjoy a wonderful Christmas.
